Purple silky dress

I was shopping for fabric the other day and I saw some purple shiny fabric that I thought would look great on Sydney Katya. It was purple and purple is her color.

Little did I know how hard it was to sew:

1. It un-ravels like CRAZY!!

2. It is so slippery that my machine couldn't hold it very well.

3. It shows needle holes very well so if you make mistakes and rip the thread out (which I do very often), the holes are still there.

4. Last but not least it doesn't iron on HIGH (which is what I iron everything). This caused me to burn a hole in the dress and burn the seam. Yes, the material stuck to my iron too!! It doesn't really iron well at all which for anyone who sews you know how big of a problem this can be. Thanks to my sewing consultant (Mrs. Jackson) we were able to move over the hem a bit and cover the hole which salvaged the dress. The zipper stitches are a little crooked because I don't have a zipper foot which is a special attachment for sewing on zippers. Thankfully most of you would never notice all these things but just letting you know that all my sewing isn't as perfect as it looks on this blog.



Despite all the above things the dress turned out so cute and I am making a little jacket with short sleeves called a bolero (never heard this word before) to go with the dress.

1st Sailor Suit

I made my first sailor suit last week. I made it for Bryce's teacher's little boy. I had so much fun making it and think it turned out cute!! It was too hard just a little tedious at times especially putting on the blue trim which is called middy braid. I wanted to make sure it was straight!! I will post pictures of it on him if she shares some pictures for now you can look at these.

Basketball game

Saturday we went to the game. Landon was excited to visit with his friends. They didn't watch much of the game. They were laughing and playing. We got there a little early and had to wait an hour and a half for the recognition. He got a certificate but his school stood as a group to be recoginized up in the stands. We are proud of him!! We had a superbowl party at the Jackson's last night (us and the Jacksons). We ate lots of chips and dip and chicken wings. The boys had root beer and brownies too. Lots of sugar!! I sewed and watched the commercials while Ryan and his dad watched the game. Well, that was our weekend.

Landon is a top reader!

Today I had to sub at the boys' school. I subbed in a kindergarten class across from Landon's. It went well. The kids were talkative but very good in comparison to some I have had in the past. I had a wonderful parapro so it helped move the day along smoothly. Some exciting news, Landon received a letter from the athletic director at the University here because he was one of the top 10 AR readers in kindergarten at his school!! Yeah for Landon. He will be recognized at the basketball game this weekend. I am so proud of him. I will post pictures this weekend after the game.

Moving back to sewing, I found a dress that I had cut out (but not sewn yet) in a bag over at Mrs. Jackson's when I went to eat there the other night. I decided that it wasn't too hard so I would start it. It didn't take long to put it together other than the fact that I had miscut the sleeve lining a little bit. I decided I didn't want to follow the pattern (which I do very often) but Mrs. Jackson said I should so it would be neat on the inside. I was thinking IT WON'T even show. I did follow the pattern though and it turned out lovely. This was the first zipper I had to put in too. Mrs. Jackson explained it and I did it all by myself. I was surprised at how straight my lines were and IT WORKED TOO!! Yeah!! I just love the sash in the middle! Can't wait to make here Valentine's dress with a crenlin under the skirt out of this same pattern. It will be so adorable. (Sorry about the pictures because her room was a mess, guess I have been too busy sewing to clean;)

The orange dress I cut out Sunday afternoon. I thought that the salmon color would look good with this sheer material that had flowers. They did look good but that sheer material is NOT fun to sew with. It was unraveling so quickly especially when I had to pull out the gathering stitches 3 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not fun. I was able to finally getting it to work though. I thought it turned out cute although I think I should have made a size 1 because the size 2 was little big in the neck but she will grow. It is a wonderful pattern and I will be make more from this one! I did my first FRENCH SEAM (sounds fancy, doesn't it?) It is a seam for sheer materials so it won't show so much and keep it fromsuch that ravel lots. I just looked up a you tube video on french seams and it worked! I was so proud. Ok, well enough for now. I need to be going to bed, it is so late.

More dresses!!

I am having fun sewing so I have been too busy to blog. Sorry:( Thanks for all the kind comments about my sewing. I am glad that you are tolerating the pictures of all Sydney Katya's spring wardrobe. I have finished several more since my last blog but haven't taken the time to post. In the last two weeks, I have been sewing and we also went to Atlanta for the MLK weekend. It was fun but very cold. I enjoyed sewing with my sister while I was there. Anyways, the kids are doing well and are always active doing something. We had two birthday parties today so Ryan went to one and I went to the other. Not much exciting in our life other than school (which for the boys isn't that exciting either most of the time). Just wanted to write a little so you would know that I was okay (in case anyone was wondering).
