Grandparents' Day (Guest Blog by Mrs. Jackson)

I asked Mrs. Jackson to write about grandparents' day at the kids' school. This below is what she wrote along with some of her pictures. Thanks so much!!

Grandparents’ Day
Among the perks of having in- resident grandchildren is being privy to firsthand celebrations. On Friday Jim and I had the privilege of eating lunch with Landon and Bryce at their latest new school. It is a school new to them and also new to the community. It is huge…in structure and enrollment. Quite frankly, eating pizza in a lunchroom among several hundred kids and additional grandparents would not be my choice of activities, but it turned out to be a delightful day. The school personnel were organized and friendly. We Jackson grandparents arrived for the first lunch shift (Landon’s K-5 class), and we were given bright yellow visitor passes decorated with Wildcat paw prints. We then were directed to the lunchroom and greeted by Landon’s big grin…and the joyful noise of many other youngsters. We chose to actually eat with Landon. He volunteered to help Grandmommy eat her pizza. After eating we walked the blue line with his friends to his classroom and were serenaded with a special song and presented a picture from Landon of him holding a “Welcome to Grandparents’ Day” sign.
After Landon’s excellent performance, we went to visit the library and discovered someone we knew worked there. Actually, 4 or 5 people Sara knows are on the faculty or staff of the school. Bryce had told us earlier to be sure to get a “free” book from the discards in front of the library. Book hound that I am, we choose one on Mt. Everest. About that time Bryce came down the hall with his second grade class, and we hopped on the blue line to share lunchtime with him. This time we just visited and enjoyed meeting his student teacher and sub. Thanks Bryce and Landon for inviting us to Grandparents’ Day. We were proud to be there with you and look forward to visiting your classrooms again. The lunchroom…probably not.
